Public Speaking Training Online

22-Mar / 0 COMMENTS

I’m trying something new with my online system. I’ll still be writing speeches, but many have asked if I could offer online public speaking training. I did this with a few clients recently and it worked well. No one had to fly me out to their place of training and pay costly per diems. Rather it all took place over the phone and Skype.

Here’s public speaking training online will work:

  1. You book a time with me (just like a speechwriting call) via calendly (www.calendly.com/eddie-rice).
  2. Our call focuses on either running your speech and practicing it or we set up a series of calls where we work on specific skills.

It might be easier to tell in story form:

Greg has a big speech coming up. It’s not the typical status report or weekly check-in. Rather, the VP of Sales will be there—his boss’ boss. Greg knows what he wants to say but needs a trusted set of eyes and ears on the speech. He turns to me. We set up, one month out, 4 calls where we Skype together and Greg runs his speech. During each one, he and I focus first on the intro, then the closing, then various tricky parts. Other times, we run the whole thing from start to finish. At the end of it, I give feedback to Greg along with parts that were recorded. I’m still trying to figure that part out. Once done, Greg gets homework and works on particular parts for the next session. We then repeat until the big day.

Or let’s say you are Jennifer. Jennifer doesn’t have one particular speech coming up but she’s called upon constantly at her work for various presentations. She has noticed that her confidence waivers at times and that she isn’t connecting with her audience. So she talks to me and we set up an initial diagnostic session where she runs through a recent or upcoming speech. I ask some probing questions and discover her strengths and weaknesses. From there, I create a custom set of training materials and exercises to do between sessions. We check once a week over a series of 3, 5, 7, or 10, weeks. Whatever works best. At each session, we work on confidence building and adapting the content to make it warmer and more relatable. Most likely eye contact is involved and we work on that, too.

Sometimes you might be a mix between the two. You have a big speech coming up, have no clue what to say, and you want to nail it. We will work together on both the content and speech delivery as we set out a plan to make it work. The easiest way to think of what this will entail is thinking about it like hiring a personal trainer to meet a fitness goal.

Want to be a part of this training? and tell me what would work best for you for public speaking training.

Here’s to better speaking.
